Flexible Body

Suppose a person wants to achieve a lot of flexibility. Say he/she wants to go right up to splits, raising one leg to the ear while standing, etc. What should the person do? If he is ready to devote an hour a day, how long would it take him?

I would like to know your experiences and those of people you know.

Depends on a lot of factors.
How old is he? Does he have any disbilities? Was he ever part of a circus? Is he gay or straight?

Re: Flexible Body

I would say it depends of the age and the medical issues (if any) and the dedication he has in him to achieve it.
Also, if he has preexisting excess weight that he needs to shed etc.

An hour a day, warm up, high intensity cardio and then whatever you need to do to achieve, i am thinking 1 year to 18 months.

Frankly, I'm a bit curious why Shringarey would want to raise his one leg to his ear while standing. It might rip.

Thanks, Aashika.

Any other inputs from anyone? It would be seriously appreciated. The matter is quite important for the person concerned

Re: Flexible Body

If it's an artificial leg, esp. an easily detachable one, then it's really, really easy!
Otherwise, the guy should stand facing some wall, and raise (and rest)one leg as high up against the wall as possible, and then lean towards that leg-----it will speed up the flexibility of that leg and body.

if the concerned person is going to do this to a timetable, then they better not do it. These things have to happen at their pace, hurrying things up can cause medical problems. Slowing things up defeat the purpose of trying in the first place.

Re: Flexible Body

Flexibility is easier to achieve in pre-teens. That's why gymnasts as really young. After a certain age, you can't expect to get very flexible if you didn't have prior training, especially splits and all. Ballet dancers who were able to do the splits in the twenties struggle in their thirties and forties. If Mr Hariharan who eats idlis and hasn't exercised for decades is now wanting to do the splits, it ain't gonna happen.

Re: Flexible Body

Lifestyle change is required to lose weight and keep it off.. then regular stretching, etc.. may be then splits can be done

Re: Flexible Body

My daughter had her ballet recital yesterday and in there i saw some kids some acro. They are all under age 10 and the way they did it is simply amazing.
What is the goal here? is it to lose weight or the weight is already within the ideal limits and you want to do splits?
If no weight-loss is required, perhaps high intensity cardio and all that stuff is redundant.
Think acro, yoga etc maybe?
