Also the entire US lands have FEMA Maps, with 10 and 100 yrs flood plains lines properly shown ( that these areas are having probability of flooding once in a10 yrs ) and we have to obey all those diff easements and keep the development certain feet away from wetlands, flood plain line sand other so many drainage, electrical and building restriction line easements,..

India have for years ( till today ) the same pipelines for sanitary and storm sewer combined,.... ! US has less trouble for their water treatment plants to treat the surface drain of water to make it drinkable,. ( all catch-basins and storm sewer pipes,.... drains to a big water storage reservoir,.. )

....
Storm water and sewage drains are actually supposed to be different in India toobut storm water drains get used as sewage lines or have tons of plastic waste on them. Some posh localities in Bangalore like Sadashiv pet and Koramangala still had storm water drains next to houses in 2000, but given the deteriorating conditions, not sure if they are still there.

^ IMHO, India’s drainage problem no one can solve, due to the population, congestation of areas, crowd, 24/7 heavy traffic, gandgi and lacking sense of ppl towards cleanliness,….and also main importantly, haphazard erection of illegal buildings and hugh apartment complexes and what not,…. and they tie-into the same sewer for their shitt- toilet-sink-bathroom disposal for which the previous design ( size of the u/g pipes was not accommodated for ! ! ) No matter, you give a contract to Japan or Germany to correct the drainage problems - surface slopes, RCP or PVCP pipe sizes below the ground,.. it will still not solve the problem,..

In a street locality area of Ahmedabad, where I was raised, in my childhood days, the water was coming by itself to the first floor without any motor/pump ( due to the water tank’s pressure, itself ) , but 20 yrs later, it seemed like to suck the water from the ground nal / chakli /tap,.. now you even need a powerful motor to suck the water ! Lol.
That many sucker new developments and population, killed the pre-designed water pressure !

Also in US, when we design any residential or commercial complex, by rule we have to quite / escape 15-20-30 percent ( in certain zone ) ground for land scaping,… so, that area ground suck the water in a natural way,.,.. if all paved, the surface drain off from pavement goes terribly high ! I Indian cities no one knows or follows this rules of thumb,.. ! Just today, I am reading this news,.. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/c...ntenttarget=no

US also have all of its soils classified of certain categories, and there are Soil maps for entire US, and they know the quality of soil for absorbing water, its rate, how fast,.. etc etc,.. plus we have to design a detention ponds ( dry and wet ponds ) which will collect water temporarily, and will let suck it to the ground slowly, its size, depth and all engineering calculation is a whole big science. When you drive around, you see,… mini ponds and few ducks floating around,… those are those, ‘Detention Ponds’ we call it. That will not let complex ( shopping center / residential /warehouse complex ) flooded.

I think even in US you will need to change that water tank once in a while. The pressure it once had will not be the same 20 years down the line. Dont ask me how that works.

I am a civil engineer for decades and I have even pictures how and which way they took put old water tanks in Dover, Delaware areas,.... why, how and which way they dismantled,.... by cutting it in a portions,.. etc,.

I think, we are not talking about changing the tank,… of course, everythg become obsolete, n’ must be dismantled,.. and once it out-lived its life-span expected should be demolished for public safety,,…. I worked at Bhavnagar Port under GMB, and one of our very loving old steam engine Tug named Bhimsen” , we had to auctioned and dismantled, though it was working fine, but had outlived its probable expected life-span,.. !

We are talking about,.... the population increasing by leaps and bounce, illegal / over-dose of unnecessary construction, illegal ppl ties-into water /sanitary and storm sewer drains haphazardly, out of its capacity previously designed for its load-carrying capacity,.. and secondly no1 care about building more water tanks ( budget is not passed and money is eaten away by politicians ) to solve that city’s pressure and water quota problem needs,… to re-establish the required pressure needed, that will feed the water to every house-hold, with right pressure and enough quantity !

We are talking about, how the system fails,.. and Drainage is not working out properly and how and why the flood situation arrives almost 3-5 times in a single monsoon, at the same place repeatedly and regularly,.. causing damage to jan-jivan and ruining hundreds of cars, traffic and other hassle.
