Re: Achche Din

Air India was deliberately being run down by UPA. Any decent management should have been able to turn it around to profit.

not belittling the turnaround - just saying it was a matter of getting taken seriously and the government has now done that.

Plugging LPG subsidy leaks leads to Rs 21,000 crore savings

As many as 3.3 crore fake, ghost and duplicate LPG connections have been blocked, leading to saving of Rs 21,000 crore in subsidies, said oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

"When we assumed office (in 2014), we had a system of misdirected subsidies, rich and upper middle class were entitled to LPG subsidies. There were many duplicate connections and the subsidised LPG was diverted to commercial and industrial segments," he said, addressing the Asia LPG Summit organized by World LPG Association here.

As a result, poorest of the poor never had access to LPG. In 2014, almost half of Indian households didn't have LPG connections.
Pradhan said the Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG was launched in 2014 wherein subsidy was directly paid into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
"This made the process transparent and plugged the subsidy leakages which was otherwise being misused through ghost accounts," he said.

The scheme is benefiting over 176 million consumers and over Rs 40,000 crore or $6.5 billion of subsidy has been transferred directly to the beneficiaries bank accounts in the last two years.
"It has also resulted in estimated saving of over Rs 21,000 crore or $3.2 billion in two years to the government," he said.

Pradhan said an intensive exercise was also carried out for identifying duplicate, fake, ghost and inactive domestic LPG connections. As on April 1, 2015, 33.4 million connections were identified and blocked, saving Rs 21,000 crore subsidy in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

The minister said 12 million have voluntarily given up subsidies to provide under-privileged access to LPG.

If he does away with petroleum subsidies altogether, there will be even more savings. Only it is a sure shot way to lose elections.

BTW, did anyone notice how intolerance and post Diwali air pollution vanished after demonetization?

Common sense should tell us that if the congress has governed for such a long that there will be room to improve on all areas. The question is are we moving as fast as we need to move?

Koi kuch bhi kahe, public has showed a lot of common sense accepting notebandi. Only people like bajaj etc are dissing it. Even the sex workers have no problem but their Dallas or bhadvas are complaining

GDP figure is out and govt claims 7%. Immediately khangrezs questions the veracity. Dumbos will not accept anything that is against their narrative of DeMo. Where are all the leftist chutiyas with western degrees painting a doomsday?

Re: Achche Din

Demonitization. I don't know economic aspect of it.
but at social level, I met many people standing in queues at many place, people were in difficulty but everyone was more or less supporting it.

At social level, I think in North India it must have taught people to stand properly in queue I suppose

The more Congress screams more people know they are lying sons of b*%&es. BTW, total silence about the condition of SoGa and her missing act from campaigning in UP elections.

A left wing or congress guy would respond as "See British Imperialists live Modi"

Now news comes as - "Modi is going to visit Israel"

Me thinks " He visits so many countries. What's new in this."

Then it says "He is the first Indian PM to visit Israel"
Now realized that PVN and ABV also never visited Israel.

Indian PMs never visited Israel to keep the Muslim votes.
