Cookie-Kutty Rescue Rasam

I name this after my 2 year old; we call him cookie at home. English translation of Kutty will be Little One
He gets this cold-virus often and while he is building his immunity, I try to relieve his symptoms without having to resort to over-the-counter medications. This rasam is a staple at home and is mild enough but has everything that will give heat to the body and relieve the cold symptoms. This is well loved by 2 little ones and 1 big one at home

Dry roast the below until its hot to touch, do not burn them. I simply put everything in one pot and roast it.

cup each (coriander seeds, toor dal)
1 tsp hing/ asafoetida
2 tsp raw white rice
cup jeera/ cumin
5 tsp milagu/ peppercorns
2 tsp manjal/ turmeric powder

This makes a small dabba full of Rasam powder. You only need 3 tsp per serving/

Tastes good without salt too but you can add 1/2 tsp should you prefer in rasam.

In a cooker (smaller the quicker), add 1 cup chopped tomatoes, 1.5 C water, 2 tsp tamarind, 3 tsp rasam powder, 1 sprig curry leaves, 2 garlic pods, 1/8 cup cilantro. Cook on high for 2 whistles. Release pressure and add 2 tsp of tadka made with ghee. Serve with hot rice or with toast.

Suitable for ages 8 Month and above. Loved by all age groups.

Eedharich hu.

Not regular daily like befor, but do come often.

Was busy for a while.

Had to go to India for 2 weeks in December, then again 3 weeks in Feb/March this year.
