The interviewer most probably speak worse English than we have to listen closely to just answer the questions, NO need to elaborate, always keep it simple, be polite, everything should be fine.
Sunit bhai good luck!!!

Re: Share your green card experiences with us

I am over with my green card process. I had a very easy interview - i.e. there was no interview. They just asked me to show my papers (approval notice) and they just stamped something on some papers and that was it.

Re: Share your green card experiences with us

HA..HA...at this Marwaari chhoraa....

My story is very eventful. No questions were asked ever, but lot of stupidities from both side. Mine as well as US emmigration dept.

Starting from Medical check up.

Amtha got check up call, went to Bombay. excited....No reservation, 8 hrs overnight in crowded train..reached uncles house in camps corner, took shower, dressed nice (as usual)....instead of walking (even hough it was very close) took cab to breach candy hospital. Met a friend, and cut line on his invitation ...stood inline for half an hour...all of sudden the friend asked, hey where is your passport... fuck...In exitements had forgotten passport home. Daimmmn...got out..went to beer bar....caught night train....again noreservation....Bribed Chandulal (TC on Vadodara express, Knew him... )...reached home, told dad....ofcourse he got pissed, Grabbed passport/..went Vadodara....caught Chandulal again...bribed him....got a sea....went to Mumbai.....here I come. Finished Medical check up. Went to Beer bar....Went to Uncle's place, said Bye...to the Bombay Central....No Chandulal...fuck chandu....asked another TC.... ...Got a Birth for sleepin. New guy better than Chandudio.

After few days a friend who had applied few wekks after me got Visa call. WTF.....So went to Mumbai. Looooooong ass line outside consulate. Cut the line, Asked chawkidar, I want answer.
He said go inside.
Inside asked at one window. Why no me got visa call?
Guy behind thick glass asked me for to see all the papers I had received....
shiiiiiiit. Had forgotten to turn in one piece of paper with just a signature at botto. (they called it a form). Gave him that....So what next I asked, He said 2 months till you get called.

finally Amtha got visa call.
Went Bombay with all papers.
Went to consulate.....went in...(Lot of morons don't know...Immigration visa seekers have no line). Got a number....checked out ppl....ogled at some newly wedded ones. ....One dude walked past me 3 times....And I noticed....daiiiimn...He was Kalyanjibhai from Kalyanji Anadji. Shook hands with him. My number came...went to one window. Geek behind glass asked if I want interpreter...gave him a look...he did not liked, so said No Sir.
He said rais hand, swear....I said I do.
All he asked is who is this guy (my wife's uncle had sent the sponsor papers since she was not working at that time.) I explained this. He pushed papers back....Asked to get papers from wife only.
Pissed...

Called USA.
Asked wife to send her papers.
Dumb ass FIL argues, she no job, she No mone too much in bank....how...what now..

I said my ass.
No money, No job tel lene. They want only her papers.
Worst part...I was told bu Consulate to appear before the last day of the month with papers or wait two more months in writing. BH@#$%^&*...., That was on 8th of Feb...February has 28 days....fat gayi...
FIL sent papers in DHL or some like that reached papers in Ahmedabad in week...to his buddy...he rushed to my place personally with papers...me went B'Bay....No chandu...no corrupt TC,......Unreserved coach...hard ass woooden seat.....stayed up all night.....went to uncle's place, dressed up nice...no walking....cab...5 minutes ride....went straight inside....got number....got called up in 15 minutes..dude behind glass asked...got papers Mr Patel?.....Mr Patel said yes sir...here,.....pushed file....Dude glanced thrugh all....told me ....OK Mr Patel...Come in after 4 pm....pay fee and collect Visa....wtf....no question....nothing....commuting from Gujarat to Bombay so many times and thats it....come after 4 pm.
Picked up visa, went to cousine's place, went for drink and dinner....next day home back....after...few days Hello USA....Amthala padhaare USA mai.

Next episode........After 2 years in USA.....GC renewal.

That was also very eventful. Trust me.

Its like I have seen all kind of problems. Nothing illegal, no lying cheating from my side. But all problems.

Gotta go...Tomorrow...renewal of GC episode.

Re: Share your green card experiences with us

Out of context but a similar experience. When I went for the naturalization test I was told they would ask you a couple of questions et all. So I end up at the booth and the guy asks me some basic personal questions, where i live, how long i have been here, where i work etc and then tells me to write on paper "I can write in english". So i write it smiling thinking its a joke of some sort. He then tells me to come in the afternoon for my oath. I am like dont you need to ask me some interview questions. He turns around and tells me that I answered everything to his satisfaction. I am like okkkkk, patli gali pakdo aur khisko waha se. Jaasti bhankas nahi karneka. Not everyday you meet a kind INS person.

Re: Share your green card experiences with us

first time in my life I am posting longest self typed posts.

Here is episode II. GC renewal.

Hack, I was so pissed at all these, I wrote all these in detail.

Theek lage tow padho, warnaa aage badho.

My eventful GC story......

After 2 years in USA, had to renew GC. Went downtown Newark in the early morning, picked up forms, came back.
Prepared documents, statements etcc....got pictures.

Went back next week. Early in the morning 7 am reached.....loooooooong ass line. Got in, went to some window. Turned in papers, got #, after few hours of wait an old black broad called my #. Went to her. She said good morning Mr Patel. I said....ummmm good afternoon maa'm. She grinned, apologized.

She browsed papers. No questions asked again...asked me to swear all papers are correct.... me said, "I do".
She took fingerprint, stamped mah passport and told me If I don’t get GC in mail in 6 months come back and get restamped. Bye and have a nice day.

2 days later got big envelope in mail from INS. I was like WOW…that fast? Opened it immediately…. guess whaaa? All my papers she had whole stack in it. I was like WTF did I do now? Did they reject me or what….Took day off next day, went downtown again in the morning, In the line….got inside, to the inquiry counter. Dude asked me why me here for? I said why I got these? He grabbed from me, said sorry…you were not supposed to get that. Mistake. One minute…dang…I am outside after within 1 hour in line….

6 Months later……No GC, Passport stamp nearing expiration.

Took a day off. Went to downtown early in the morning. Stood in line at 6 am. Around 8 am I was like 10 th may be 15th from the door, and a big fat mean looking kallu came and started shouting…..no renewal stamp today. Only appointees will be let in. Stamp seekers go home. We got more than enough inside..blaah blaah…yell yell… etc..
I was like ..fuck…went back home, wasted a day off at friend store. Next morning same thing….same time…same situation….same Kallu yelling ….me at 10th form door. I said…fuck…me no go home today. Stayed in line. When my turn came, at the door Kallu asked me what I am for, I said stamp. He gave me look and aksed, didn’t I said earlier…no stamping today? I said look man, this is my 3rd day here you did same (I lied, it was 2nd day). I am not going back. He said OK..You may go inside. I went inside, got # at inquiry counter waited 3 hours….got stamped, asked the Old lady why so long…?She is like I dunno…but I will send a letter for reminder. She actually did in front of me.

Few weeks later got a letter to appear in one office in Patterson . Letter said come “Anytime between 8 am and 5 pm” . A buddy of mine asked me why there? That place is for basically all illegal and farmer permit holders has to go. I was…like WTF…I am 100% legal here in USA, OK I’m not worried. Next day me and another buddy went there…looking and asking for the address. Finally we made it after 2 hours “journey” at 4 pm. upon reaching…Kallu (another chawkidar) asked why? What? Etc.. I said this. Showing him the letter. He said in Shadashiv Amrapurkar of Ardhsatya style “Kal aanaa, time nahi aaj” (in English) . I said No way I am driving around 2 hours again. Letter says between 8 and 5. Let me in. He opened the door wide to show me with a wide grin on his face, asked me now if I wanna go! The big ass hall was full I mean FULL of people. The building was like warehouse, with big wooden door. So I was like….wwwooooohhhhaaa! So said, mah fren, come tomorrow, early in the morning, no line, dunno why government write so in letter, everybody come lyke this. Nobody here in early. OK I said. Thanked him, went next day, reached @ 8 am, no line, went inside, …about 100 like me already there. Turn in letter I had received at one counter. There were like 20 counters across the walls…..and one numnut will call out names with booth # to go to. After couple of hours…I heard , Mr Patel to booth 12, A desi dude got up and went there, after 10 more ppl’s calls heard again Mr Patel to booth # falanaa…Another one after that…And I am like that’s it. Next call for Mr Patel I am running. And So I did. And taadaa… At the counter, the dude asked me for first name . And He had all Patels. I was like almost at the bottom of pile but got in early….. :Smart boy: All he did is he took my fingerprint again. He did very precisely. And told me that’s it. You may go. I was like…that was it? Then he showed me the old one, which had smeared fingerprint looking like just a spot. And then finally my GC arrived in mail after a month. And guess what…..It had expiration date of year 2000. So in 2K I told myself….no fukkinway I want it again.

And hence I applied for citizenship even though I do not had/have to apply for anybody.

Damn....my fingers are hurting now.

Re: Share your green card experiences with us

My company has applied to DOL for my GC Labour and it should come in the next month. If I were to change my employer now or later, and then start a fresh GC with that new employer for a new job profile, would I receive an enquiry from the government ?
Alternatively, if I join the new employer, and maintain my same job profile name, would it still be grounds for an enquiry? Would they ask me as to why did I leave my old employer who applied for my labour ?

Re: Share your green card experiences with us

No. You will not receive any inquiries. Labor substitution is not allowed anymore so if you leave your current co. after labor approval, you have to restart your GC app at your new co. This means a new labor process.
Your old job/co/old labor cert does not matter and its a closed case for all your current GC matters.
The same category job etc. only applies for AC 21 which is at a very different stage

but if you change employer, you mostly get to keep your priority date. I figured even though its 6 years since karenpiumetti posted the question, he could still be waiting for his GC, more so if he's filed under EB3 and unable to change.

P.S. I was searching for something else and came across this thread.
