Question What inspires greater creativity, freedom or constraint?

Creativity is the ability to create that which was not there before;

Freedom is the power to do anything within current material constraints (no time travel);

Constraint is the sum total of the parameters that keep us bound in daily life (funds, schedules, etc).

Re: What inspires greater creativity, freedom or constraint?

A very confusing question.

As per your definition, freedom is bound by constraints.

You define freedom and constraints not as distinct entities, but interlocked entities.

A very incoherent question. Disappointing.

Next question please.

Re: What inspires greater creativity, freedom or constraint?

I think neither freedom nor constraint inspire greater creativity .It's necessity which inspires the most after all Aavyashaktaa hi aavishkaar ki janNi hai Necessity is the mother of all inventions.

Most quotes make for fun reading, as long as you consider them time-pass generalizations. Someone says, "Out of sight, out of mind." Someone else says, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder."

But this one "Necessity is the mother of invention" rings true.

But what Necessity Wright Brothers had that led them do design planes, same could be said about bulb, car, radio.

Why Indians never needed such things ?

We lack concern for human comfort...!! Tatas have been making Trucks for over half a century now...!! They could never provide one AC in the driver's cabin... The hapless drivers were forced to do a cross country travel sitting on a Jute Seat shabbily built on a Plywood... No power steering and forget about Power Windows...!! Reason...?? 'are woh to driver hai.. usko yeh sab kyu chaahiye'...!! Volvos and Man came to India and suddenly now you see Tatas waking up and making decent cabins...!!

As far as the proverb "Necessity is the mother of invention" goes, I would take it to mean that when there is necessity (or call it urgency), we get inventive and creative with finding solutions.

But every time we are creative, the driving factor does not necessarily have to be necessity. We may be creative for other reasons, say, to gain fame or fortune.

Umm ... I don't think proverbs are meant to be analyzed too much. They should just be enjoyed casually.

Or we are so comfortable that we think it is unnecessary to think. It was said that in mughal times, if one tastes water of delhi and its delicacies, one stops working all together

I think it is because of hobby or amusement factor, like the case of newton,einstein, edison, Ramanujan etc

Amusement? Obsession would be more like it.

Obsession seems even more likely, Like newton's love for alchemy

Re: What inspires greater creativity, freedom or constraint?

Maa kasam! Bouncer!!!!

Simple words mein bole toh..
Creativity yeh ki tu EC pe bakwaas kare
Freedom yeh ki tu bina kisi darr ke..khullan khulla apne laptop pe EC browse kar sake
Constraint yeh ki teri biwi maayke se vaapis aa jaaye!!!

Is my understanding correct?
So what's d point here? Constraint and freedom can't co-exist?
